Code of Conduct

Public House Barbell Club is built on community, respect, and a shared passion for strength. This Code of Conduct ensures that everyone—from first-time lifters to national competitors—feels welcome, safe, and supported in their training.

  • Community: Support and encourage fellow lifters regardless of experience level
  • Integrity: Be honest, accountable, and authentic in your actions
  • Inclusivity: Welcome and respect people of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities

Expected Behavior

Respect and Inclusion

  • Use inclusive language and be mindful of others' backgrounds and experiences
  • Support beginners and share knowledge generously
  • Celebrate others' achievements and milestones
  • Ask before offering unsolicited advice or coaching
  • Respect personal space and training time

Safety and Equipment

  • Use equipment properly and for its intended purpose
  • Use collars, safeties, and spotters when appropriate
  • Return weights and equipment to proper storage after use
  • Clean equipment after use (wipe down benches, bars, etc.)
  • Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment immediately
  • Do not drop weights outside designated lifting platforms
  • Be aware of your surroundings and others training nearby

Facility Etiquette

  • Wear appropriate athletic attire and closed-toe shoes
  • Keep the facility clean; throw away trash and clean up chalk
  • Keep noise levels reasonable (music, shouting, dropping weights)
  • Limit phone use to necessary communication; avoid excessive phone time on equipment
  • Share equipment fairly during busy times; work in with others when possible
  • Keep personal belongings in designated areas
  • No food in the training area (water bottles are fine)

Communication

  • Be professional and respectful in all communications
  • Address concerns directly or bring them to staff attention
  • Respond promptly to facility communications regarding membership or safety
  • Keep coaches informed of injuries, limitations, or health concerns

Prohibited Behavior

The following behaviors will not be tolerated and may result in immediate membership suspension or termination:

Harassment and Discrimination

  • Harassment, bullying, or intimidation of any kind
  • Discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or national origin
  • Unwanted physical contact or advances
  • Offensive, derogatory, or discriminatory comments or jokes
  • Stalking or persistent unwanted attention

Unsafe Behavior

  • Training while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs
  • Reckless use of equipment that endangers yourself or others
  • Ignoring safety protocols or staff safety instructions
  • Attempting lifts significantly beyond your capability without proper spotters

Disruptive Behavior

  • Excessive noise or intentionally disruptive behavior
  • Hoarding equipment or monopolizing space during busy times
  • Verbal abuse, threats, or aggressive behavior
  • Destruction or vandalism of property
  • Theft of gym or personal property

Privacy Violations

  • Photography or video recording of others without explicit consent
  • Sharing others' personal information without permission
  • Posting photos or videos of others on social media without consent

Commercial Activity

  • Unauthorized coaching, personal training, or selling of services
  • Solicitation or sales activities without prior written approval

Reporting and Enforcement

Reporting Violations

If you witness or experience behavior that violates this Code of Conduct:

  • Speak with facility staff or management immediately if you feel safe doing so
  • Email concerns to info@publichousebarbellclub.com
  • All reports will be taken seriously and handled confidentially
  • No retaliation will be tolerated against those who report violations in good faith

Consequences

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in:

  • First Violation: Verbal warning and documentation
  • Second Violation: Written warning and potential temporary suspension
  • Serious or Repeated Violations: Immediate membership termination without refund

Serious violations (harassment, threats, violence, theft) may result in immediate termination and involvement of law enforcement.

Social Media and Online Conduct

  • Be respectful when representing or discussing the gym online
  • Do not post images or videos of other members without their consent
  • Tag the gym positively and constructively
  • Report online harassment or abuse to management

Amendments

Public House Barbell Club reserves the right to amend this Code of Conduct at any time. Members will be notified of significant changes via email. Continued membership constitutes acceptance of any amendments.
